Method

Batter Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vegetable oil until smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix; it's okay if there are a few lumps.

Hot Dog Preparation

  1. 4

    Prepare Hot Dogs

Insert a wooden skewer into each hot dog, pushing it in about halfway through to ensure stability.

Frying

  1. 5

    Heat Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

  2. 6

    Dip and Fry

Dip each skewered hot dog into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding.

  3. 7

    Cook Until Golden

Fry the corn dogs for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate and Serve

Serve the mini corn dogs with a side of fries or fruit, a soft drink, and a cookie for a complete meal.
