Method

Beef Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Ground Beef

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into burger patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the hot grill or skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and place a slice of American cheese on top. Continue cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Prepare the Buns

While the patties are cooking, slice the hamburger buns in half. If desired, toast the buns lightly on the grill or in a toaster.

  2. 6

    Build the Burger

Start by placing the lettuce leaf on the bottom half of the bun, followed by the cooked beef patty with melted cheese. Add tomato slices and onion slices on top. Finally, place the top half of the bun over the toppings.
