Preparation of the Beef Patties

  1. 1

    Forming the Patties

In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef with salt and pepper. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing during cooking.

  2. 2

    Cooking the Patties

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium doneness. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.

Toppings and Assembly

  1. 3

    Preparing the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, wash the lettuce leaves and slice the tomato into thick rounds. Set aside.

  2. 4

    Assembling the Burger

Toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or in a toaster. Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Place the cooked patty with melted cheese on top of the mayo, followed by a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, and pickles. Top with ketchup and mustard, then close the burger with the top half of the bun.
