Directions
- 1
Prepare the Onion
Slice the onion and sauté it in 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat until it is caramelized, about 10-12 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- 2
Cook the Beef Patty
Form the ground beef into a patty and season with salt and pepper. In a separate skillet, cook the patty over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until it reaches your desired doneness.
- 3
Assemble the Patty Melt
Once the patty is cooked, place the sautéed onions on top of the patty, followed by the cheese slices. Allow the cheese to melt slightly.
- 4
Grill the Sandwich
Spread the remaining tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of rye bread. Place one slice, buttered side down, in a skillet. Add the patty with onions and cheese, then top with the second slice of rye bread, buttered side up. Grill on medium heat for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy.

Serve
Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve hot.
