Fried Jalapenos

Method

Fried Jalapenos

  1. 1

    Prepare the Jalapenos

Wash the jalapenos thoroughly. Slice them in half lengthwise and remove the seeds for a milder flavor, or leave them in for extra heat.

  2. 2

    Wrap with Bacon

Take each jalapeno half and wrap it with a strip of bacon. Secure with a toothpick if necessary.

  3. 3

    Prepare Breading

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Bread the Jalapenos

Dredge each bacon-wrapped jalapeno in the flour mixture until fully coated.

  5. 5

    Heat Oil

In a deep skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Jalapenos

Carefully place the coated jalapenos in the hot oil. Fry until the bacon is crispy and the jalapenos are tender, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Sausage Gravy

  1. 7

    Cook the Sausage

In a large skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the breakfast sausage until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 8

    Add Flour

Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir well to combine. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.

  3. 9

    Add Milk

Slowly pour in the milk while stirring constantly. This will help prevent lumps from forming.

  4. 10

    Season the Gravy

Add salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to the gravy. Stir well and let it simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.

  5. 11

    Serve

Once the gravy has thickened, remove it from the heat and serve over the fried jalapeno bacon.
