Meat Sauce

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tsp of salt to the water.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add 400g of spaghetti to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain and Reserve

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and reserve 1 cup of pasta water for later use.

Making the Meat Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 chopped medium onion, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 diced carrot, and 1 diced stalk of celery. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and aromatic, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 5

    Brown the Meat

Add 500g of ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 7-10 minutes.

  3. 6

    Add Tomatoes and Wine

Stir in 400g of canned tomatoes, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, and 100ml of red wine. Bring to a simmer.

  4. 7

    Season the Sauce

Add 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Stir well and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  5. 8

    Finish the Sauce

If the sauce is too thick, add some reserved pasta water until you reach the desired consistency. Stir well.

Serving

  1. 9

    Combine and Serve

Toss the cooked spaghetti with the meat sauce until well coated. Serve hot, garnished with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
