Prepare the Burger Patty

Mix the Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef with 1 tsp of salt, 0.5 tsp of black pepper, and 0.5 tsp of garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined.

Form Patties
Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.

Cook the Patties
Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side until browned. Flip the patties and place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked to your desired doneness.

Prepare the Tomato
While the patties are cooking, wash and slice the medium tomato into thick slices.

Prepare the Lettuce
Wash and dry the lettuce leaves. Set aside.
Assemble the Burger

Toast the Buns (Optional)
If desired, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

On the bottom half of each bun, layer the cooked patty with melted cheese, followed by lettuce leaves, and tomato slices. Add ketchup and mustard to taste. Top with the other half of the bun.
