Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese Sticks

Freeze the mozzarella cheese sticks for at least 1 hour before cooking to prevent them from melting too quickly.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, place the all-purpose flour in the first bowl, whisk the eggs and milk together in the second bowl, and combine the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in the third bowl.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Take a frozen mozzarella stick and coat it in flour, shaking off any excess. Dip it into the egg mixture, then coat it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat this process for all cheese sticks.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the right temperature.

  5. 5

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully place the breaded mozzarella sticks in the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté Garlic

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes & Seasonings

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

  4. 9

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Stir in the fresh basil leaves just before serving. Remove from heat and set aside until ready to serve.
