Method

Preparation of Topping

  1. 1

    Chop the Tomatoes

Dice the fresh tomatoes into small cubes and place them in a mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Basil

Finely chop the fresh basil leaves and add them to the bowl with the tomatoes.

  3. 3

    Add Garlic

Mince the garlic cloves and add them to the tomato and basil mixture.

  4. 4

    Season the Mixture

Drizzle the balsamic vinegar and olive oil over the mixture. Add salt and black pepper to taste. Gently stir to combine all ingredients.

  5. 5

    Let it Marinate

Allow the mixture to sit for 10 minutes to let the flavors meld together.

Preparing the Bread

  1. 6

    Slice the Bread

Cut the baguette or Italian bread into 1/2 inch slices.

  2. 7

    Brush with Olive Oil

Brush both sides of each slice with olive oil.

  3. 8

    Toast the Bread

Preheat your oven to broil. Place the slices on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

Assembly

  1. 9

    Top the Bread

Remove the toasted bread from the oven and spoon the tomato and basil mixture generously over each slice.

  2. 10

    Serve Immediately

Serve the bruschetta immediately while the bread is warm, optionally drizzling with extra balsamic vinegar if desired.
