Meatball Ingredients

Sauce Ingredients

Method

Meatball Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, eggs, chopped parsley, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

  2. 2

    Shape the Meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the formed meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Refrigerate the Meatballs

Cover the baking sheet with plastic wrap and refrigerate the meatballs for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Cook the Onions and Garlic

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

  2. 5

    Prepare the Sauce

Add the crushed tomatoes, salt, sugar, dried basil, and dried oregano to the skillet. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cooking the Meatballs

  1. 6

    Brown the Meatballs

In a separate skillet or using the same skillet after preparing the sauce, add the meatballs in batches. Brown them on all sides over medium-high heat, about 3-4 minutes per batch.

  2. 7

    Simmer the Meatballs in Sauce

Once browned, transfer the meatballs into the simmering sauce. Cover and let them cook in the sauce for an additional 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Serving

  1. 8

    Plate the Dish

Serve the meatballs with the sauce over cooked pasta or on their own with a sprinkle of additional Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley on top.
