Fried Calamari
Method
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
In a medium bowl, soak the sliced calamari in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
- 2
Make the Coating
In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Coat the Calamari
Remove the calamari from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Dredge the calamari pieces in the flour mixture until evenly coated.
- 5
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve the fried calamari hot with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
