Ingredients for Samuel Adams Beer

Method

Brewing Directions

  1. 1

    Step 1: Mashing

In a large pot, heat 5 liters of water to 160°F (71°C). Add 2 cups of Pale Malt and 0.5 cups of Crystal Malt to the water. Stir well and maintain the temperature for 60 minutes to convert the starches into sugars.

  2. 2

    Step 2: Lautering

After 60 minutes, raise the temperature to 170°F (77°C) for 10 minutes. Then, drain the liquid (wort) from the grains into a separate pot. Rinse the grains with hot water to extract more sugars.

  3. 3

    Step 3: Boiling

Bring the wort to a rolling boil. Once boiling, add 1 oz of Cascade hops. Boil for 60 minutes, adding more hops if desired for bitterness.

  4. 4

    Step 4: Cooling

After the boil, cool the wort quickly using an immersion chiller or by placing the pot in an ice bath until it reaches about 70°F (21°C).

  5. 5

    Step 5: Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermenter. Sprinkle the yeast packet over the surface and seal the fermenter with an airlock. Allow it to ferment at a steady temperature (around 68-72°F or 20-22°C) for 1-2 weeks.

  6. 6

    Step 6: Bottling

Once fermentation is complete, dissolve 3 oz of priming sugar in a small amount of water and boil it for a few minutes. Cool and add it to the beer before bottling. Bottle the beer using sanitized bottles and caps.

  7. 7

    Step 7: Carbonation

Store the bottles in a dark, room-temperature area for about 2 weeks to allow carbonation to develop. After this time, chill and enjoy your homemade Samuel Adams beer!
