Ingredients for Heineken

Method

Brewing Directions for Heineken

  1. 1

    Mashing

In a large pot, combine the barley malt and corn with 500ml of water. Heat to 65°C and maintain that temperature for 60 minutes. This process converts starches into sugars.

  2. 2

    Lautering

After mashing, separate the liquid from the grain using a strainer or a lautering tun. The liquid collected is called wort.

  3. 3

    Boiling

Bring the wort to a boil and add the hops. Boil for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will extract flavors and bitterness from the hops.

  4. 4

    Cooling

After boiling, cool the wort quickly to around 20°C using a wort chiller or an ice bath.

  5. 5

    Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort to a fermentation vessel. Add the yeast and seal the container. Allow it to ferment at a temperature of around 18-22°C for about 1-2 weeks.

  6. 6

    Bottling

Once fermentation is complete, siphon the beer into clean bottles, leaving some space at the top. Cap the bottles and allow them to condition for an additional 1-2 weeks.

  7. 7

    Enjoy

Chill the bottles and serve your homemade Heineken!
