Ingredients for Heineken
Method
Brewing Directions for Heineken
- 1
Mashing
In a large pot, combine the barley malt and corn with 500ml of water. Heat to 65°C and maintain that temperature for 60 minutes. This process converts starches into sugars.
- 2
Lautering
After mashing, separate the liquid from the grain using a strainer or a lautering tun. The liquid collected is called wort.
- 3
Boiling
Bring the wort to a boil and add the hops. Boil for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will extract flavors and bitterness from the hops.
- 4
Cooling
After boiling, cool the wort quickly to around 20°C using a wort chiller or an ice bath.
- 5
Fermentation
Transfer the cooled wort to a fermentation vessel. Add the yeast and seal the container. Allow it to ferment at a temperature of around 18-22°C for about 1-2 weeks.
