Winemaking Equipment

Method

Grape Preparation

  1. 1

    Harvesting the Grapes

Harvest Chardonnay grapes at optimal ripeness, ensuring they are free from rot and pests.

  2. 2

    Crushing and Destemming

Crush and destem the grapes using a crusher to separate the juice from the skins and seeds.

  3. 3

    Pressing

Press the crushed grapes using a wine press to extract the juice. Collect the juice in a fermentation tank.

Fermentation Process

  1. 4

    Adding Yeast

Add the yeast to the grape juice in the fermentation tank to initiate fermentation.

  2. 5

    Monitoring Fermentation

Use a hydrometer to monitor the specific gravity of the wine during fermentation. The process should last about 2-4 weeks.

  3. 6

    Adding Sulfur Dioxide

Add sulfur dioxide to the wine to protect it from oxidation and spoilage. Ensure the level is at 50 mg/L.

  4. 7

    Malolactic Fermentation (optional)

If desired, add malolactic bacteria to convert malic acid to lactic acid, adding creaminess to the flavor profile.

Aging and Bottling

  1. 8

    Aging

If using, add oak chips to the wine and allow it to age in the fermentation tank for 6-12 months to develop flavors.

  2. 9

    Siphoning

Once aging is complete, siphon the wine into clean bottles, leaving sediment behind.

  3. 10

    Corking

Use a corker to seal the bottles with corks. Ensure they are properly sealed to prevent oxidation.
