Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Spice Rub

In a bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well to form a spice rub.

  2. 2

    Season the Pork

Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it is evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Cook the Pork

Preheat your slow cooker or oven to 225°F (107°C). If using an oven, place the pork shoulder in a roasting pan. Pour the apple cider vinegar and pork broth around the pork, then cover with foil. If using a slow cooker, place the pork in the pot and add the liquids. Cover and cook for 8-10 hours until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

  2. 4

    Shred the Pork

Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the cooker or oven and let it rest for 15 minutes. Using two forks, shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.

Serving

  1. 5

    Assemble the Sandwiches

Place a generous amount of pulled pork on the bottom half of each hamburger bun. Top with coleslaw and cover with the top half of the bun.

  2. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately while warm. Optionally, you can add BBQ sauce on top for extra flavor.
