Method
Flatbread Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Preheat Oven
While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
Assembly and Baking
- 6
Shape the Flatbread
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal pieces. Roll out each piece into a flatbread shape on a floured surface.
- 7
Add Tomato Sauce
Place the rolled-out flatbreads on a baking sheet. Spread tomato sauce evenly on each flatbread, leaving a small border around the edges.
- 8
Add Cheese and Seasonings
Tear fresh mozzarella cheese into small pieces and distribute evenly over the sauce. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- 9
Drizzle with Olive Oil
Drizzle olive oil over the top of the assembled flatbreads.
- 10
Bake the Flatbreads
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 11
Add Fresh Basil
Remove from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves. Let cool slightly before slicing.
