Method

Preparing the Beef Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 1 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.

  4. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness. Add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.

Preparing the Toppings

  1. 5

    Prepare the Tomato

Wash the tomato and slice it into thick slices.

  2. 6

    Prepare the Lettuce

Wash the romaine lettuce leaf and pat it dry.

Assembling the Cheeseburger

  1. 7

    Toast the Buns (Optional)

If desired, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 8

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place the cooked beef patty with melted cheese. Top with the lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Place the top half of the bun on to finish.
