Method
Prepare the Dough
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until frothy.
- 2
Mix the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Prepare the Toppings
- 5
Cook the Shrimp
In a skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Once hot, add the shrimp, season with salt and pepper, and cook for about 2-3 minutes until pink and cooked through. Remove from heat and set aside.
- 6
Prepare the Pizza Base
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- 7
Add Toppings
Transfer the rolled dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Layer the sliced tomatoes, cooked shrimp, and mozzarella evenly over the pizza base. Scatter fresh basil leaves on top.
Bake the Pizza
- 8
Bake
Drizzle the remaining tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil over the pizza. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 9
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve hot, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
