Beer Ingredients

Method

Brewing Process

1

Mash

Heat 15 liters of water to 67°C (152°F) and add the pale malt, crystal malt, and roasted barley. Let it mash for 60 minutes.

2

Sparge

After mashing, sparge the grains with hot water to extract sugars, bringing the total volume to about 20 liters.

3

Boil

Bring the wort to a boil. Add the bittering hops and boil for 60 minutes. Add the aroma hops in the last 5 minutes of the boil.

4

Cooling

After boiling, cool the wort quickly to about 20°C (68°F) using a wort chiller.

5

Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermentation vessel and pitch the yeast. Seal and let ferment for 1-2 weeks at 18-22°C (64-72°F).

6

Bottling

Once fermentation is complete, bottle the beer with priming sugar to carbonate. Let it condition for another 1-2 weeks.

7

Enjoy

Chill the bottles and enjoy your homemade Deschutes Obsidian Stout!
