Fried Pickles
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pickles
Drain the sliced dill pickles and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (about 350°F/175°C).
- 4
Fry the Pickles
Dip each pickle slice into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, and carefully place them into the hot oil. Fry in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- 5
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried pickles from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm with ranch dressing for dipping.
