Cook the Bacon
In a large pot, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pot.

Add Flour
Stir in the flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes to create a roux.

Add Liquids
Gradually whisk in the chicken broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Add the diced potatoes, clams, thyme, and bay leaf.

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.

Add Cream and Season
Stir in the heavy cream, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Heat through, but do not boil.
