Everything Bagel Topping

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine the warm water (1.5 cups) and sugar (1 tbsp). Sprinkle the active dry yeast (2 tbsp) over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour (4 cups) and salt (1 tsp). Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil (2 tbsp).

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Mix the ingredients until they form a dough. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 5

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 6

    Shape Bagels

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then poke a hole in the center with your finger to form a bagel shape. Stretch the hole to about 1-2 inches in diameter.

  3. 7

    Second Rise

Place the shaped bagels on the prepared baking sheet, cover them with a cloth, and let them rest for about 15 minutes.

  4. 8

    Boil Bagels

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully add the bagels (2-3 at a time) and boil for about 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place them back on the baking sheet.

  5. 9

    Add Toppings

In a small bowl, mix together the sesame seeds (2 tbsp), poppy seeds (2 tbsp), dried garlic (1 tbsp), dried onion (1 tbsp), and coarse sea salt (1 tsp). Brush the boiled bagels with water and sprinkle the everything bagel topping generously on top.

  6. 10

    Bake Bagels

Bake the bagels in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
