Method

Cake Directions

1

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

3

Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

4

Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

5

Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin; this is normal.

6

Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

7

Cool the Cake

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

8

Prepare the Frosting

In a mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Add the cocoa powder and mix until combined.

9

Add Powdered Sugar and Milk

Gradually add the powdered sugar and whole milk, mixing until you reach your desired consistency. Add the vanilla extract and mix until well combined.

10

Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake as desired.
