The Shirodhara is an ancient therapy used for centuries to restore inner calm and balance to the emotions, and to rejuvenate hair and scalp. The Shirodhara begins with a thin, gentle stream of warm herbal oil to the center of the forehead to quiet the mind and soothe the senses. The nourishing and conditioning oil is massaged into hair and scalp. Dosha specific herbal infused oil is used to perform “Marma Point” massages on the face, hands and feet to stimulate the organs of the body.

Oil Blend

Method

Preparing the Oil

  1. 1

    Mixing the Oil Blend

In a clean glass jar, combine the sesame oil and Brahmi oil. Add the lavender, peppermint, and rosemary essential oils. Mix well and set aside.

  2. 2

    Infusing the Herbs

In a small saucepan, add the dried hibiscus, lavender, and chamomile flowers to the oil blend. Heat on low for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Do not let it boil. Strain the mixture into a clean container, discarding the herbs.

Performing the Shirodhara

  1. 3

    Setting Up

Set up a comfortable reclining position for the person receiving the treatment. Ensure the area is warm and relaxing, with soft music playing in the background.

  2. 4

    Pouring the Oil

Heat the herbal oil gently until warm, but not hot. Using a small pouring vessel, create a thin stream of warm oil and pour it onto the center of the forehead, allowing it to flow gently. Repeat this for about 15-20 minutes.

  3. 5

    Scalp and Marma Point Massage

After the Shirodhara pour, massage the remaining oil into the hair and scalp. Perform gentle Marma point massages on the forehead, hands, and feet to stimulate relaxation and balance.
