Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs. Then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract, mixing well.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on a wire rack.

Frosting Directions

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy.

  2. 9

    Mix Cocoa and Sugar

Gradually add cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk. Beat until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

  3. 10

    Add Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until combined.

  4. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread frosting on top, and then place the second layer on top. Frost the top and sides of the cake.
