Method

Preparation of the Sauce

  1. 1

    Sauté Aromatics

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the finely chopped shallots and sauté until translucent, about 4-5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

  2. 2

    Deglaze with Wine

Pour in 2 cups of red wine and bring to a boil. Scrape the bottom of the pan to release any browned bits. Allow the wine to reduce by half, about 10-15 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Broth and Seasonings

Once the wine is reduced, add 1 cup of beef broth, 1 teaspoon of thyme, and 1 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper. Stir well and let it simmer for another 5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Finish with Cream

Lower the heat and stir in 1 cup of heavy cream. Allow it to heat through for about 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt as needed.

Serving the Dish

  1. 5

    Prepare the Baguette

While the sauce is simmering, slice the baguette into thick rounds. Optionally, you can toast the slices in a toaster or oven until golden brown.

  2. 6

    Plate the Sauce

In a shallow bowl, ladle the prepared sauce. Make sure there's enough to cover the bottom of the bowl, creating a base for the dish.

  3. 7

    Garnish and Serve

Place the toasted baguette slices next to the sauce. Garnish with 2 cups of mixed greens on top of the sauce or on the side. Serve immediately.
