Preparation

1. Prepare the Beef

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

2. Form Patties

Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, approximately 3/4 inch thick.

3. Preheat Grill or Pan

Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.

Cooking

4. Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until a nice brown crust forms. Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness.

5. Melt the Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place cheddar cheese slices on top of the patties and cover with a lid to help melt the cheese.

Assembly

6. Prepare the Buns

While the patties are cooking, slice the burger buns in half and toast them lightly on the grill or in a toaster.

7. Assemble the Burgers

Place each patty on the bottom half of a toasted bun. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, sliced pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Place the top half of the bun over the toppings.

8. Serve

Serve the burgers immediately while hot with extra toppings available on the side.
