1. Prepare the Beef
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
2. Form Patties
Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, approximately 3/4 inch thick.
Cooking
4. Cook the Patties
Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until a nice brown crust forms. Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness.
5. Melt the Cheese
In the last minute of cooking, place cheddar cheese slices on top of the patties and cover with a lid to help melt the cheese.
