Combine Ingredients
In a mixing glass, add the bourbon or rye whiskey, simple syrup, and Angostura bitters.

Mix
Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir the ingredients for about 20-30 seconds until well chilled.
Serving

Prepare Glass
Place a large ice cube in an Old Fashioned glass.

Strain
Strain the chilled mixture from the mixing glass over the ice cube in the Old Fashioned glass.

Garnish
Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink and drop it in. Add a maraschino cherry for garnish.
