Tortilla Chips

Method

Preparation of Tortilla Chips

  1. 1

    Cut Tortillas

Cut each corn tortilla into 6 triangles to form chips.

  2. 2

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  3. 3

    Fry Chips

Fry the tortilla triangles in batches until they are golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.

  4. 4

    Drain and Season

Remove the chips with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Immediately sprinkle with salt while still hot.

Cooking the Toppings

  1. 5

    Cook Ground Beef

In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.

  2. 6

    Add Seasoning

Stir in the taco seasoning and a splash of water. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the seasoning is well mixed.

  3. 7

    Prep Vegetables

While the beef is cooking, chop the tomatoes, green peppers, and onions, and set aside.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Layer Chips

On a large serving platter, create a bed of the homemade tortilla chips.

  2. 9

    Add Toppings

Evenly distribute the cooked ground beef and diced ham over the chips.

  3. 10

    Add Vegetables

Top with chopped tomatoes, green peppers, sliced jalapenos, and diced onions.

  4. 11

    Add Cheese

Finally, sprinkle the shredded cheese on top of the loaded chips.

Serving

  1. 12

    Serve Immediately

Serve the loaded chips and cheese hot, with optional toppings such as sour cream or guacamole on the side.
