Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pickles
Drain the dill pickles from the jar and pat them dry with paper towels. This will help the batter adhere better.
Batter
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until combined.
- 3
Add Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; some lumps are okay.
Frying
- 4
- 5
Fry the Pickles
Dip each pickle slice into the batter, allowing excess batter to drip off. Carefully place the battered pickles into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Once fried, use a slotted spoon to remove the pickles from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Repeat with the remaining pickles.
Serving
- 7
Prepare the Dipping Sauce
Serve the fried pickles hot with a side of ranch dressing for dipping. Enjoy your crispy fried pickles!
