Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and place them in a bowl.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.

  2. 3

    Add Cold Water

Gradually add cold water to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. The batter should have a thick consistency.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Dip the Onion Rings

Take each onion ring, dip it into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated, and then carefully place it into the hot oil.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Fry the onion rings in batches, cooking for about 2-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan.

  4. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried onion rings with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
