Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel and slice the onions into thin rings or half-moons, about 1/4 inch thick.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.
- 3
Cooking
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or skillet, heat oil over medium heat. You need enough oil to submerge the nuggets halfway.
- 5
Coat the Onions
Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is well coated. Allow excess batter to drip off.
- 6
Fry the Nuggets
Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- 7
Drain the Nuggets
Once golden brown, remove the nuggets from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Serving
- 8
Serve with Sauce
Serve the onion nuggets hot with your choice of dipping sauce on the side. You can mix mayonnaise, ketchup, and hot sauce for a delicious dip!
