Mashed Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks (about 1-2 inches).

  2. 2

    Boil the Potatoes

Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain the Potatoes

Once the potatoes are tender, drain them in a colander and allow them to sit for a few minutes to steam dry.

  4. 4

    Mash the Potatoes

In a large bowl, add the drained potatoes. Use a potato masher or ricer to mash the potatoes until smooth.

  5. 5

    Add Butter and Milk

While the potatoes are still hot, add in the butter and milk. Mix until fully incorporated, adjusting the consistency as needed by adding more milk.

  6. 6

    Season the Mashed Potatoes

Add salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Mix thoroughly to ensure even seasoning.

  7. 7

    Serve

Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving dish. Optionally, top with extra butter and serve alongside your favorite gravy.
