Toast and Eggs

Method

Country Fried Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Season the beef cube steaks with salt and black pepper on both sides.

  2. 2

    Batter the Steak

Dredge each seasoned steak in flour, then dip into the buttermilk, and finally coat again with flour.

  3. 3

    Fry the Steak

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the breaded steaks for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Sausage Gravy

  1. 4

    Cook the Sausage

In a saucepan over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage, breaking it up with a spoon until browned and cooked through.

  2. 5

    Make the Roux

Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes.

  3. 6

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and black pepper.

Homefries

  1. 7

    Prepare the Potatoes

Dice the potatoes, onion, and bell pepper.

  2. 8

    Cook the Homefries

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the diced potatoes and cook until tender and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the onions and bell peppers halfway through cooking. Season with salt and black pepper.

Toast and Eggs

  1. 9

    Toast the Bread

In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add slices of bread and toast until golden brown on both sides.

  2. 10

    Cook the Eggs

In the same skillet, crack the eggs and cook them to your desired doneness (sunny-side up, over-easy, etc.).
