Country Fried Steak

Prepare the Steak
Season the beef cube steaks with salt and black pepper on both sides.

Batter the Steak
Dredge each seasoned steak in flour, then dip into the buttermilk, and finally coat again with flour.

Fry the Steak
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the breaded steaks for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Cook the Sausage
In a saucepan over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage, breaking it up with a spoon until browned and cooked through.

Make the Roux
Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes.

Add Milk
Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and black pepper.

Cook the Homefries
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the diced potatoes and cook until tender and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the onions and bell peppers halfway through cooking. Season with salt and black pepper.
