Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.

  3. 3

    Soften Butter

In a separate bowl, soften the unsalted butter by letting it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.

Mixing

  1. 4

    Cream Butter and Sugars

Using an electric mixer, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy.

  2. 5

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.

  3. 6

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredient mixture, mixing just until combined.

Add-Ins and Baking

  1. 7

    Fold in Add-Ins

Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed in the cookie dough.

  2. 8

Scoop and Place on Baking Sheet

Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.

  3. 9

    Bake Cookies

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. The centers may look slightly underbaked.

  4. 10

    Cool Cookies

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cookies cool on the sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
