Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Wash the russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a towel.

  2. 2

    Poke the Potatoes

Using a fork, poke several holes into each potato. This allows steam to escape during baking.

  3. 3

    Season the Potatoes

Rub each potato with a little salt for added flavor.

Baking

  1. 4

    Bake the Potatoes

Place the potatoes directly on the middle rack of the preheated oven. Bake for about 45-60 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.

Serving

  1. 5

    Prepare for Serving

Once baked, carefully remove the potatoes from the oven. Use oven mitts as they will be hot.

  2. 6

    Add Toppings

Cut a slit down the center of each potato, being careful not to cut all the way through. Fluff the inside with a fork and add 1 tablespoon of butter to each potato. Sprinkle cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon on top.

  3. 7

    Finish with Sour Cream

If desired, add a dollop of sour cream on top and season with black pepper to taste.
