Corn Dog Batter and Hot Dogs
Method
Cooking Instructions
- 1
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. The batter should be thick but pourable.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil reaches the correct temperature for frying.
- 4
Coat the Hot Dogs
Dip each skewered hot dog into the batter, making sure it is fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.
- 5
Fry the Corn Dogs
Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown. Use tongs to turn them occasionally for even cooking.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Once cooked, remove the corn dogs from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your choice of condiments.
