Calamari Ingredients
Method
Preparation Directions
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Begin by rinsing the calamari rings under cold water and patting them dry with paper towels. This step is crucial to ensure the breading adheres well.
- 2
Set Up the Breading Station
In a bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. In another shallow dish, combine the flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- 3
Bread the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then coat them in the flour mixture. Ensure they are evenly coated.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the correct temperature for frying.
- 5
Fry the Calamari
Carefully lower a few coated calamari rings into the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried calamari with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with marinara sauce on the side and lemon wedges for squeezing on top.
