Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Gently mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the beef mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing while cooking.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 4 minutes on one side, until browned.

  4. 4

    Flip and Add Cheese

Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3 minutes. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover the skillet with a lid to melt the cheese, cooking for another 1-2 minutes.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Buns

While the cheese is melting, slice the burger buns in half and toast them lightly on a separate skillet or grill until golden brown.

  6. 6

    Assemble the Burgers

Spread ketchup and mustard on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place a lettuce leaf followed by a cooked beef patty with melted cheese. Top with slices of fresh tomato and cover with the top half of the bun.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the burgers immediately while hot, with extra ketchup and mustard on the side if desired.
