Method
Prepare the Burger

Shape the Patties
In a bowl, mix ground beef with salt and black pepper. Form into 4 equal patties.

Add Cheese
In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover to melt.
Make Horseradish Sour Cream

In a medium bowl, mix the sour cream, prepared horseradish, lemon juice, and salt until well combined. Set aside.
Prepare Fried Onion Strings

Slice the Onion
Thinly slice the onion into rings.

Soak the Onion
Place the onion rings in buttermilk and let them soak for at least 30 minutes.

Coat and Fry
In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Dredge the soaked onion rings in the mixture. In a deep skillet, heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry the onion rings until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
Assemble the Burger

Build the Burger
On the bottom half of each burger bun, place a cooked patty with melted cheese. Top with horseradish sour cream and a generous amount of fried onion strings. Cover with the top half of the bun and serve.
