Pasta and Cheese

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions, usually around 8-10 minutes, until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Cheese Sauce

In the same pot, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes until it turns golden, stirring constantly to prevent burning.

  3. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually add 2 cups of milk to the butter and flour mixture, whisking continuously until the mixture is smooth. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until it thickens slightly.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Cheese and Seasoning

Reduce heat to low and stir in 2 cups of sharp cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder. Stir until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is creamy.

  5. 5

    Combine Pasta and Cheese Sauce

Add the cooked elbow macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is well coated with the sauce.

  6. 6

    Prepare for Baking

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mac and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle 1 cup of breadcrumbs evenly over the top.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

  8. 8

    Serve

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your homemade mac and cheese!
