Method

Baking the Cake

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing them and dusting with flour.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Add Food Coloring

Stir in the red food coloring until the batter reaches your desired shade of red.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the center.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Making the Frosting

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until creamy and smooth.

  2. 9

    Add Sugar and Flavor

Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until the frosting is light and fluffy.

  3. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, spread a layer of frosting on top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
