Flan Base

Caramel Sauce

Method

Flan Base Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

    Mix the Flan Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.

Caramel Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Make the Caramel

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of water. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves, then stop stirring and allow it to boil until it turns a golden amber color. This should take about 8-10 minutes.

  2. 4

    Coat the Flan Mold

Immediately pour the caramel into a flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly before it hardens.

Baking the Flan

  1. 5

    Combine Flan Mixture and Bake

Pour the flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the mold. Place the mold in a larger baking dish filled with hot water (water bath) and bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a toothpick comes out clean.

  2. 6

    Cool and Chill

Once baked, remove the flan from the oven and let it cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Serving the Flan

  1. 7

    Unmold and Serve

To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Invert onto a plate and let the caramel sauce drizzle over the flan. Slice and enjoy!
