Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well to ensure all dry ingredients are evenly distributed.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine the warm water and vegetable oil. Stir until mixed.

  3. 3

    Form Dough

Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients while mixing with a wooden spoon or your hands. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

Filling Preparation

  1. 5

    Mix Filling Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, soy sauce, sesame oil, chopped green onions, minced ginger, minced garlic, and finely chopped cabbage. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.

Bun Assembly

  1. 6

    Divide and Shape Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into a disk about 4 inches in diameter.

  2. 7

    Fill Buns

Place a tablespoon of the filling mixture in the center of each dough disk. Gather the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch to seal tightly. Make sure there are no gaps.

Steaming

  1. 8

    Prepare Steamer

Line a steamer basket with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking. Arrange the filled buns in the steamer, leaving space between each bun.

  2. 9

    Steam Buns

Bring water to a boil in a pot and place the steamer basket on top. Steam the buns for 15-20 minutes until they are fluffy and cooked through. Check the water level and add more if needed.
