Method

Preparing the Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Avoid overmixing.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400°F or 200°C).

  4. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip them over, and if making cheeseburgers, place a slice of cheese on each patty. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes or until the cheese melts and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for medium.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Prepare the Buns

While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns on the grill for about 1-2 minutes until they are lightly golden.

  2. 6

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the grilled patty (and cheese if using). Add a slice of tomato, a few pickles, and top with ketchup and mustard to taste.

  3. 7

    Complete the Assembly

Place the top half of the bun on each burger. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
