Preparation

Preparation

1. Clean the Mussels

Rinse the Maine mussels under cold water, scrubbing the shells to remove any dirt or debris. Discard any mussels that are open and do not close when tapped.

2. Prepare the Aromatics

Mince the garlic and chop the shallots finely. Set aside for cooking.

3. Chop the Parsley

Rinse and chop the fresh parsley. This will be used for garnish and flavor enhancement.

Cooking

4. Sauté Aromatics

In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped shallots, sautéing until they are translucent and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.

5. Add Mussels and Liquid

Add the cleaned mussels to the pot, followed by the white wine and fresh lemon juice. Season with salt and black pepper. Stir gently to combine.

6. Cook the Mussels

Cover the pot with a lid and increase the heat to high. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until all the mussels have opened. Discard any mussels that remain closed.

7. Garnish and Serve

Remove the pot from heat and stir in the chopped parsley. Serve the mussels hot with crusty bread for dipping into the broth.
