Potatoes

Method

Preparation of Potatoes

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel

Thoroughly wash the russet potatoes under running water to remove any dirt. Using a vegetable peeler, peel the skin off the potatoes.

  2. 2

    Cut into Fries

Cut each potato into even strips (about 1/4 inch thick) to ensure they cook uniformly. Aim for approximately 4-5 fries per potato.

  3. 3

    Soak the Fries

Place the cut fries into a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This step removes excess starch and helps achieve crispiness.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 5

    Dry the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove excess moisture. This helps to prevent oil splatter.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried fries into the hot oil. Fry them in batches to avoid overcrowding the pot. Cook for about 5-6 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain Excess Oil

Once cooked, use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Seasoning

  1. 8

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper. Toss gently to coat evenly.
