Instructions for Preparing Joey
Make the Bolognese Sauce
In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion, garlic, carrot, and celery, sauté until soft (about 5 minutes).
Add the Meat
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
Combine Ingredients
Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer on low heat for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Prepare the Cheese Bread
In another skillet, melt the remaining tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Place two slices of cheese bread in the skillet, top with half of the grated parmesan cheese, and then add the remaining two slices of bread on top. Grill until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Assemble the Joey
Once the bolognese sauce is ready, spread half of the marinara sauce on one slice of toasted cheese bread, add a generous amount of bolognese sauce, and sprinkle some more parmesan. Top with the second slice of cheese bread and repeat for the second serving.
Serve
Cut the sandwiches in half and serve warm with additional marinara sauce on the side.
