Ingredients for Falafel
Method
Directions for Making Falafel
- 1
Soak the Chickpeas
Place the dried chickpeas in a bowl and cover with water. Soak them overnight or for at least 8 hours.
- 2
Prepare the Mixture
Drain and rinse the soaked chickpeas. In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, parsley, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Pulse until a coarse mixture forms, but do not purée.
- 3
Shape the Falafel
Using your hands, form the mixture into small balls or patties, about the size of a golf ball.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep pan or fryer, heat oil over medium-high heat. The oil should be about 2 inches deep.
- 5
Fry the Falafel
Carefully add the falafel balls to the hot oil, frying in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Remove the falafel from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with tahini sauce, pita bread, or your favorite dipping sauce.
