Making the Sauce

Cook Ham and Bacon
In a large skillet over medium heat, add diced cured ham and bacon. Cook until they are crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove excess fat if necessary.

Prepare the Tomato Sauce
Add canned crushed tomatoes to the skillet with ham and bacon. Stir in red chili flakes, dried oregano, and sugar. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Finish the Sauce
Once the sauce has thickened, stir in fresh basil. Keep warm while cooking the fish.

Plate the Dish
Place the cooked fish on plates and generously spoon the spicy tomato sauce over the top. Serve immediately with crusty bread or pasta if desired.
